Body Care: Glowing Summer Skin

With all the hype on clear skin, people seem to forget about their bodies too.  Making sure your whole body is healthy and hydrated is super important.  My mom is all about skin and body care so I’ve learned plenty of tips through her (thanks mom!).

  1. drink lots of water – if you’re already doing this for your face/general health, you’re good!
  2. SPF – the last thing you want on your glowing skin is sun damage/sun spots… take care of yourself
  3. baby oil – this is one of my moms tips… before drying off after the shower, rub baby oil allover, let it soak in and then dry off
  4. aquaphor – this is super weird but if you’re skin is in dire need of some moisture, load up on aquaphor at night and when you wake up in the morning you’ll feel as soft as a baby’s butt (which makes sense because they use this stuff on baby’s butts lol)
  5. sugar scrub – scrub off all of that dry and dead skin with any sugar scrub, I like this one from Soap & Glory because it smells like lime and it’s just amazing

How to Cope with Breakouts

As a teenager, I know first hand how frustrating it is to see a blemish pop up on your face. Lately my skin has been so bad and I’ve been hard on myself for it but I had to realize that I’m a stressed out high school student and I’m obviously going to break out! Once you stop putting so much pressure on the way you look, you will notice how much happier you are.

The way I cope with clogged pores is by giving my skin a break. I try not to put face makeup on and I try to wash my face A LOT and moisturize A LOT. When your face is breaking out,                           you definitely do not wanna be adding anything else on top of that.                   Try: opening up your pores over steam or with hot water before washing your face.

I always stress that, even if you have oily skin, you should always be hydrating your skin! I have a blog post up about how to battle dry skin in the winter so be sure to go check that out for my top tips!

We all know the feeling of seeing/feeling a new pimple right on the center of our face (even when it’s on your jawline, it still feels like the center of your face lol). If you’re                                                                                struggling with this right now…                                                        Try: putting toothpaste or tea tree oil on the zit overnight to dry it out.

I know everyone thinks the cure to acne is exfoliating but DON’T! You shouldn’t be over-exfoliating your face and should only do this if your skin is overly dry. I was told that exfoliating too much isn’t good for your skin and I will continue to follow that rule! (hey Yassi, thanks lol)

Finally, just remember to calm down and focus on something else. Try to get some more sleep and have a relaxing spa night and give your face a break! As teens, we already have so much pressure on us at school, so don’t let your skin add to that stress! With time and care, your skin will clear up. Trust me, everyone else is too busy worrying about their own skin to worry about yours! Live your life and remember to love yourself ALWAYS! XO

How to Battle Dry Skin in the Winter

UGH…Now that it’s getting cold outside I can feeeel the moisture getting sucked out of my skin! Naturally, I have really dry skin so the winter can get realll annoying when it comes to skincare. Over the years, I’ve developed some tricks of keeping my skin hydrated all throughout the colder months!IMG_3697.JPG

For your Face:

*Every morning, before doing my makeup, I put on my Cetaphil moisturizer and spray my face with Rosewater. Y’all know how much I love my rosewater and there is no exception in the winter!

*Before bed, I cover my whole face with coconut oil, I swear by this stuff for dry skin. While your at it, lather this on your lashes to get that extra growth! However, I don’t recommend this for oily skin since it will clog your pores.Screen Shot 2016-11-26 at 2.22.49 AM.png

For your Body:

* It’s not only about the face, you better moisturize your body too, especially when it’s cold and dry out! After my shower, before bed, I put coconut oil on my legs, arms, hands, feet, nails, shoulders etc.

*In the mornings before school I use my all time favorite lotions which are the Fairy Secrets Lotion Candles (I have a whole post on them, they are fabulous)

My Latest Obsession: Lotion Candles

For those of you avid BBbM readers, or those who know me personally, you know my biggest fear is smelling bad. For years now, I’ve been obsessed with all things scented whether it’s perfume, lotion, body sprays or just soap! Recently I had a friend recommend the Fairy Secrets Lotion Candle which is the most amazing product you will ever find, I swear by them. I was fortunate enough to have Fairy Secrets send me some goodies but I bought one first before reaching out to them! Basically it is a lotion/oil in the form of a candle that smells like a perfume (aka magic). My favorite thing about this company is that they are all natural and don’t use any chemicals which is always a plus! Because Fairy Secrets’ team is the BEST, they also sent over some soaps for me to try and I looove them.

img_3365

All you have to do is light the candle and let it do it’s thing and melt, and then once a little pool of oil forms, blow out the flame and rub the oil onto your skin just like a lotion. Because you’re putting it on while its warm, the scent will last soooo much longer and it makes your skin feel so soft.

I ordered a small lotion candle in the scent “Pink Sugar” which is inspired by Aquolina’s Pink Sugar aka my favorite scent ever since it smells like pure candy and then I received a few others. I was sent a full size Pink Sugar, Cantaloupe and Lily, Oatmeal Milk and Honey, and Love Spell (exact replica of Victoria’s Secret version). I was also able to try out some of their soaps which have a super strong fragrance when you smell them but after using them they just leave a light scent. I have Autumn Apples, Patchouli Lavender, Florida Sunrise, and Honeysuckle Sugar.

img_3369

Pink Sugar~ just smells like cotton candy so if you don’t like sweet scents you will NOT like this

Cantaloupe and Lily~ more of a fruity, younger scent that is perfect for the spring and summer and not really a fall scent

Oatmeal Milk and Honey~smells exactly how it sounds and smells so luxurious and when I wear it I feel like I’m at a spa

Love Spell~this is one of my favorites, usually I do not like floral scents at all since they are too mature for me but this is such a fruity floral I actually really really like it, & smells just like peaches and berries!!!

img_3376The Autumn Apples~smells like apple pie because it has some spices in it which makes it perfect for fall

Unfortunately, Patchouli Lavender wasn’t really my style but I’m happy I got it so I could give a better review. As you can tell, I’m really into the sweeter scents and this fragrance is just not sweet at all, which I know some of you will LOVE! If you like the earthy, patchouli scent or love the scent of lavender then this will be perfect for you!!

Florida Sunrise~smells exactly like it sounds, it smells like lemon and orange juice and is such a summer scent that I cannot wait to use

Honeysuckle Sugar~sounds way sweeter than it smells, so don’t be overwhelmed if you aren’t addicted to candy scents like me because this just smells like a sweeter bunch of flowers and I know that makes no sense but if you smell this you will know EXACTLY what I mean!! It’s not an overly sugary scent like Pink Sugar at all, it’s just super fresh!!

Prices:

  • Small Lotion Candle ($15)
  • Large Lotion Candle (usually $25 but currently on sale 2 for $45!)
  • Soaps ($7)

If you guys try out any of these products let me know, I love hearing when you try out any of my recommendations! Also let me know if you find a new scent that you think I would like, I’m always down to hear some suggestions.

Getting Ready for the First Day of School!

Because I go back to school on Sept. 8th, I wanted to share my routine for the first day! Also check out these pics of a few of my first days of school when I was little. And an extra pic of when I was a cheerleader just because it’s too funny not to share.

For me, getting ready for any big event/day, like the first day of school, starts the night before (or a few days if you can). I’m a big sleeper so anything I can do the day before, I do! Down below is what I will be doing for my first day and some tips for YOU!

The Week Of:

  •  Wash your face 2-3 times a week! Ya gotta prepare the whole week, it’s rare for a new pimple to go away overnight!!
  • Mentally plan out your outfit. Don’t wait until the night before incase you have to buy something!
  • Go school supply shopping. DUH!!
  • Finish any summer assignments. Just incase you were bein’ a lil procrastinator (like me lol!)

The Night Before:

  • Wash, Exfoliate, Shave and Moisturize. Your whole body girlfriend.
  • Amp up your skin care routine.
    • Use a clarisonic (or a wet washcloth!!) and exfoliate your face too!
    • If you are prone to blackheads make sure to use pore strips!! You can DIY them but I use the Biore ones.
    • Use a face mask. My new favorite for super soft skin is the Fresh Rose Face Mask. If you have me on snapchat you know I’ve been loving this. (buybyebymaggie)
    • Use an acne face wash, if you don’t normally. I love the basic Clearasil one.
    • If you have normal to dry skin~ after washing, use manuka (or raw) honey and rub it onto a wet face (like a cleanser) and rinse off with warm water.
    • MOISTURIZE! I don’t care whether you have dry, normal, combo or oily skin… you gotta moisturize your skin and I use the Cetaphil one.
    • Spot treat any stubborn blemishes that haven’t gone away yet. You guys know I like my tea tree oil.
  • Spoil your hair girlll.
    • Use an in-shower hair serum/lotion. I love the Drybar Hydrating Shots but these cost a pretty penny so I like to save them for big days.
    • Deep condition your hair. I’ve been using the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter one for around a year and it’s my all time fave because it makes my hair unbelievably soft and it smells SOOO good.
    • If you don’t already, make sure to include a hair serum for your hair type after showering. My straight hair lovveess the Verb Ghost Oil but you BBbM viewers know that 😉
  • Paint your nails. Or go get ’em done if you’re feeling extra fancyy.
  • Whiten your teeth. Instead of damaging the enamel with chemicals, I like using oil pulling. (1 tbsp. of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth and pull it through your teeth for 10-20 mins, then spit it out and brush regularly).
  • Lay out your outfit. I’m a fan of sleeping in so I like to hang it up on my dresser.
  • Style your hair the night before. IF you are planning on styling your hair in the morning, do it the night before and sleep in a scrunchie!
  • Pack your backpack. Because who has time for that in the morning!
  • Pamper your lashes. Mix castor and coconut oil and load it up on your lashes (and brows) to promote growth and strengthen them!
  • Brew a coffee. I do this every night before school and put the mug in the fridge so it’s nice and cold in the morning~and isn’t watered down by ice~.

The Day Of:

  • Wash your face. A very common theme here.
  • Finish styling your hair. Or go au natural 😉 If you use heat make sure you are protecting your hair with a heat protectant spray!
  • Makeup timee! I have a whole post on middle school makeup and will have a new video on my daily makeup routine!
  • EAT! Because YUM. (also, since I’m a coffee addict I always make myself iced coffee to go)

So everyone, obviously everything is optional and you can get ready however you want (I just am a little bit of a diva and need to go through a whole salon routine for the first day lol). And NO I do NOT do this every night because ya girl doesn’t have that much time.

Girls Spa Night In: DIY Avocado Face Mask

In honor of Bachelor in Paradise being on tonight, I’ve dedicated a whole post about pampering yourself instead of sitting on the couch eating ice cream while watching reality tv… If you’re like me, you are probably obsessing over the show, and if you’re not watching… you need to. It’s the best!! Because the show falls on Mondays (&Tuesdays) it’s the perfect excuse to turn a boring weekday into a fun spa night at home.

Avocado Mask

what you need:

IMG_3080IMG_3082

IMG_3081IMG_3083IMG_3084

Benefits of Avo&Honey Combined:

My Skincare Routine for Dry Skin

Skincare is SO BEYOND important! As teens it’s so hard to find the time to take care of our skin and we usually end up putting it on the back burner. I even went through a phase where I would sleep in my makeup and just use a makeup wipe in the morning *cringe*. Only on rare occasions would you catch me actually using a full skincare routine. I’m sure plenty of you can relate to poor skin care since we are always so busy with other things (like school work or extra curricular activities). Now, I’ve made it a habit to take really good care of my skin and I’ve found myself feeling more confident without makeup on. Check out what I use down below for my super dry skin.

IMG_3176

Step 1 Makeup Wipes $30: Usually I don’t have too much face makeup on but I find it extremely important to remove your makeup before you wash your face. Some people just wash their face once but then you only get the makeup off and you’re not actually CLEANING your face.

IMG_3179

Step 2 Acne Face Wash $7: Despite the fact that I don’t suffer with acne, I always make sure to PREVENT. It’s crazy because everyone knows how much of a product junkie I am so the fact that my favorite face wash is such a basic one from the drugstore is hilarious. And, obviously no one wants pimples and this face wash does the job.

IMG_3177

Step 3 Cetaphil $10: Moisturizer is the key to healthy, soft skin. Whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin you should moisturize daily.

IMG_3186

Step 4 Spot Treatment $8-9: Normally I use 100% Tea Tree Oil whenever I have breakouts. But, I recently discover this Burt’s Bees Blemish Stick that is a much easier way to use tea tree oil because it’s a roll on.

IMG_3181

Step 5 Rosewater Spray $12: If you have been reading BBBM, then you KNOW how much I love rosewater and I’m always putting it on. If you want to hear more about the benefits of rosewater then be sure to check out my post all about it!

IMG_3166

Aside from my routine (above–which I do morning and night) I also make sure I do simple things throughout the day that help out the condition of my skin.

  • Avoid touching your face, our hands gather so much bacteria and the last place you want to put that bacteria is on your face
  • Do NOT pop pimples (only some stuff comes out, the rest goes back under your skin and creates more blemishes– I know, GROSS)
  • Drink a TON of water, you will notice a difference in how moisturized your skin is and how much it glows
  • Exfoliate at least once a week, I love using my Clarisonic but if I use it too often it can be rough on my face. Exfoliating is a major part of having fresh skin since it gets rid of the dead skin cells and makes your face look 10x brighter
